GURI IN COMPASSIVA
Guri in Compassiva is a partnership between the Compassiva Association and the Santa Marcelina Social and Cultural organisation which offers free music lessons by the Guri Santa Marcelina Program.
Through this, the Amácio Mazzaropi teaching center Compassiva headquarters in the Liberdade neighbourhood became active, serving about 50 students studying in another neighbourhood called Brás and opening spaces for residents of São Paulo’s central region.At the Amácio Mazzaropi center musical initiation classes are being offered for children from 6 to 9 years old and sequential lessons of guitar, violin, viola, cello, clarinet, saxophone, flute, trumpet, trombone, euphonium and percussion for students from 10 to 18 years old.
This year, musical initiation and singing lessons for young people and adults will be also offered at this site.The Guri Santa Marcelina program started in 2008 by an initiative from the Ministry of Culture of São Paulo and focuses musical education and socio-cultural inclusion of children and teenagers. It has teaching centres scattered throughout the capital and the state of São Paulo that ensure not only music lessons, but also social care services.The program, as well as Compassiva, aims to develop human values children and teenagers who are in vulnerable situations, and seeks to engage in culture, education and counselling. To accomplish this, it has a team of social workers who keep track of students and their families by visiting the teaching centres and homes, offering consultations and referrals, lectures, thematic workshops and training meetings.
